I clearly have blocked the newborn days out of my memory. I mean, I KNOW he didn't come home and sleep through the night. I do vaguely remember feeding him in the middle of the night, and when he wouldn't go back to sleep, watching Weeds on Netflix. Luckily, baby ginormo DID start sleeping through the night at an early age, and I've deluded myself that it "wasn't that bad".
Last night, we got a taste of the good ole' newborn days. Chunky Monkey woke up crying at 4. And it wasn't the "I'm just fussing, and I'll go back to sleep in a minute" kind of cry, though I really REALLY wanted it to be. It was more of a "HEY! GET YOUR ASSES IN HERE!" kind of cry. Tom got up with him, and it got quiet really fast. I thought he got him back to sleep, until I heard blood curdling screams from downstairs. Chunky Monkey had dropped a rather large deuce, and was NOT impressed with the diaper change at 4am. We tag teamed him, and he luckily went back to sleep really quickly.
Sadly, once I'm woken up, it is REALLY hard for me to go back sleep. I was juuuuust drifting off to sleep at a little after 6, when Carson started crying. I almost cried right along with him. I decided to wait a few minutes and see if he'd go back to sleep. Or fall into a short coma. Or play happily in his crib. You know, ANYTHING that would allow me to lay in my bed. Tom got up and brought him to bed with us. This kid is NOT a cosleeper. He thinks our bed is a giant trampoline. And that we are fun obstacles to bounce off of. There is no laying, or cuddling. Just chaos. Tom lost his patience REALLY fast, and chucked the kid back in his crib. He came back in our room and turned off the monitor, and got in bed.
Are you kidding me? Yeah, he's REALLY going to lay down and go back to sleep. So, there it was. 6:18 in the morning, and I'd been awake since 4. On a Saturday. And our day began. Mommy sat comatose on the couch while Carson jumped and ran and screamed and danced to Mary Poppins. Daddy went back to bed at 7:30. When he got back up at 11, Carson was still going strong.
The moral of the story? As much as I'd love another baby, I think that one rowdy toddler is enough for now. I cherish my sleep FAR too much to have two rugrats tag teaming me, and depriving me of me sleep. And now? C is napping, so I'm off to do the same!

Madelynn did that to me 2 nights ago. She normally sleeps really well and doesn't wake up from 7:30pm to 7:30am. It's a magical 12 hours. Well when I go to bed before midnight. The other night I didn't. I went to bed at 12:30am. Only to awaken at 4:30 to my toddler screaming. And she didn't poop. It was for no reason I could find. I put her back in bed and went to lay down. Next thing I knew I had a toddler bouncing in my bed. She knows how to open her door and climb into my bed. But not to sleep with me. To jump and play. She's just like Carson. She doesn't sleep in my bed. It's a trampoline/jungle gym. So I got her back to bed. She went to sleep. By the time I got back to sleep she was back in my bed. Bright eyed, bushy tailed, and ready to play. I was so dead. I am pregnant right now and in my first trimester. I NEED MY SLEEP. But she doesn't think so. So last night I fixed it by going to bed at the same time as her. That way I mad up for my lost sleep.
I feel your pain. lol.
