Kooshie Keister Review & Giveaway!

**I have to apologize for not having a picture of C IN the diaper. We have had a rough few weeks with HORRID diarrhea (teething related) and he wasn't in any diaper longer than about 3 seconds. Now (due to the diarrhea, I'm sure) he has developed a yeast infection. He is out of cloth until we kill the yeast on his skin AND the diapers. So, instead of waiting on the review, I went ahead with it. I'll update with pics once he's back in cloth!**

I belong to the Cloth Diapering board on BabyCenter, and I had heard TONS of comments about how tons of the cd gals over there just LOVED Kooshie Keister. It was a brand I wasn't familiar with (shocking, I know!), so I decided to look them up.

Man, am I ever glad that I did! Katie is the brains behind Kooshie Keister. She is one of the sweetest Mamas I've worked with! Not only was she very excited to do a review, she also has her own baby ginormo, and sympathized with my plight. Little did I know, she actually has a second pattern (aside from her OS fitted) for a toddler fitted! It's a bit bigger than the normal OS, and she kindly offered to make Chunky Monkey one!

Katie has oodles of adorable fabrics to choose from. I was rather enamored with the Howdy and Blast Off prints, but I let hubs pick the pattern this time. I figure, since he is awesome enough to go along with cloth, change diapers willingly, and not put up a fuss, I should let him have some say, no? He picked the ninja print! Way back in the day, hubs was WAY into martial arts. No joke. He went to some ninja camp one summer. I'll wait while you laugh yourself silly. Done? Ok, moving on.

Katie was SUPER fast! She had the circus tent diaper made up lickety split, and even sent me pictures before it was mailed out! I was SO excited to get it. You see, I've recently discovered the joys of fitted diapers, and wool. After all the raves I had heard, I was expecting some awesome adorableness and super absorbency. Katie certainly delivered!

When I got the diaper, I ripped into it like a crazed circus monkey. I was really surprised at how thick, and hefty it felt. It just felt really substantial. Sort of a boring word, but one that is important when you are talking about something that needs to absorb a lot of liquid! It was very soft, but nice and thick.

A lot of fitteds that are popular right now are snap-less (or velcro-less) which has both advantages and disadvantaes. I'm sort of a spaz with a snappi, so I personally love snaps, and Kooshie Keister diapers have snaps. Katie has cleverly designed hers to have a flap over the snaps on the inside of the diaper. This ensures that the snaps are never touching or rubbing against baby's skin!

The diaper body is constructed of 2 layers of bamboo fleece, and the outer is a knit cotton. After I received my ninja diaper, I snagged another KK fitted on a trade board, in the mint chocolate zoo print. Since it was used, it was a bit faded. That is the only drawback I have found to these diapers. And that is not just a Kooshie Keister thing. All cotton knit diapers in bright or darker colors fade. The ninja fabric is still looking great, as it's a white background. The soakers of the diaper are A-MAZ-ING! There are two; a full size soaker that has 2 snaps, so it doesn't move around while you are getting it on the kiddo, and a lay in soaker as well. The full size is plenty long enough to fold over. Once you have all the soakers in, and the diaper on, there are 11 layers of absorbency!

The first time we used the diaper, Chunky Monkey had a rash going on. I wanted him to sleep in a fitted and wool, as it allows more air to get to his tush to help the rash. So, I decided to go crazy and use a fitted I had never used before! The fit was great. I am glad she offered the toddler fit to me. Now that I have the second Kooshie Keister, I know that the regular OS fits fine, but the toddler allows for some room to grow. It was nice and trim, but I had high hopes that it would be plenty absorbent. We tossed on his oh so adorable monkeysnuggles wool longies, and he was good to go!

Chunky Monkey also happened to be going through a growth spurt during this time period. He ate 10oz before bed, another 8 in the middle of the night AND 8 more at about 6am! After the am bottle, he rolled over and went right back to sleep for a few more hours. Sooo.... 26 ounces of fluid in 10 hours. Yikes. I was terrified I was going to need an Ark to get to his crib.

NO LEAKS!!! None!! Chunky Monkey and his crib were dry! He slept for a total of 14 hours (aside from cracking an eye open to scarf a bottle or 2) and we were leak free! Now, when I changed him, of course the fitted was soaked. That is to be expected with all the liquid he consumed. But it kept the liquid where it was supposed to! I was ecstatic!

We really, truly, love this diaper. It is my go to night fitted. Well, if it lasts that long in the stash. Daddy is pretty partial to it, and it gets used a LOT. I have and will continue to recommend Kooshie Keister to anyone looking for a great fitted. They are extremely well made, super absorbent and adorable to boot. What are you waiting for?
